In Germany, the statutory insurance obligation applies. You must therefore have Insurance Coverage before you drive your car on the road. This also applies to all vehicles that are registered. Anyone who moves on the streets without Insurance Coverage risks severe penalties.
What is Insurance Coverage?
Every vehicle on the road represents a certain risk for society. Therefore, according to the legislator, every car owner has to try to get motor vehicle liability insurance. If necessary, the insurance for the car finally covers damage that occurs on the road. These can affect people, property and property damage. In addition, you can extend this insurance cover to include motor vehicle comprehensive insurance and motor vehicle comprehensive insurance.
According to this, every driver can decide for themselves – in comprehensive insurance – how and to what extent they want to insure accidents of any kind.
Compulsory insurance vs voluntary insurance cover
Insurance Coverage for vehicles on the road is considered mandatory. According to the law, you are not allowed to drive an uninsured car on the road. However, you can use the freedom to choose the insurer yourself. You decide where, how much and to what extent you insure yourself.
Remember: The voluntary partial or fully comprehensive insurance must be categorically distinguished from motor vehicle liability insurance. Consequently, compulsory insurance does not cover every damage, e.g. the damage that occurs to your car.
Car insurance is mandatory!
If you drive a car without Insurance Coverage, you are committing a criminal offense according to Section 6 of the Compulsory Insurance Act. If you do not have car insurance, you may face legal consequences. These can include imprisonment of up to six months, suspension of a driver's license or fines.
Vehicle owners whose vehicle is unknowingly moved without insurance cover hardly escape a fine. Even if they are not aware of their erroneous behavior. A penalty will follow in any case, regardless of whether it is a small or large accident.
This insurance cover is available for motor vehicles
Motor vehicle liability insurance is mandatory in Germany. If an accident occurs, it steps in and compensates for personal injury, financial damage and property damage incurred by the other party involved in the accident. In addition to this mandatory passage, drivers can voluntarily take out partial or fully comprehensive vehicle insurance. This supplementary insurance covers additional damage, such as accidents involving wildlife, damage to glass, natural hazards, personal damage to the vehicle with fully comprehensive insurance and much more. These passages are often not included in compulsory insurance.
If you would like additional insurance, then ask us about driver protection insurance and passenger accident insurance. These insurances are important in case you or the passenger are injured in an accident that is your fault.
This is how you can save
The amount of the insurance premium always depends on the insurer and the tariff. The regional classes, the vehicle, your professional group and no-claims classes also have an effect on the premium calculation. You can therefore influence the amount of the contribution. Check how many kilometers you drive by car each year and whether you use your car privately or professionally. This allows you to skilfully calculate and reduce the insurance costs for your car.
